The Spiritus Vitae Sponsorship is designed to provide educational assistance to selected qualified respiratory therapy students who are enrolled in at least nine hours at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University and are willing to commit to employment at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center following graduation.

The Spiritus Vitae Program provides a “forgivable loan” to recipients who repay obligation by fulfilling a specified employment time commitment at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center or by monetarily repaying the loan. OLOLRMC will underwrite educational expenses for each Recipient for up to $6,000 per semester, up to a maximum of four semesters totaling $24,000. The number of Recipients each semester is determined by the VP for Operations of OLOLRMC in consultation with FranU’s Respiratory Therapy program director.

Shantelle Graves, director of respiratory care at OLOLRMC said, “We hope to inspire new respiratory therapy students. We have started this scholarship program to increase the awareness and number of respiratory therapists entering the profession. As technology continues to advance and respiratory diseases evolve requiring complex treatment and care, the respiratory therapist is in demand today more than ever before. This scholarship will give students an amazing opportunity to enter this field of medicine, science and technology which has intrigued many clinicians and led to a fulfilling career.”
