Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University's academic policies are published in the University Catalog.

Honor Code

All Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University students are expected to adhere to the Honor Code and Honor Statement listed in the Student Services Handbook. Any formal academic setting relies upon high standards of honesty among its students and faculty.  The University expects both faculty and students to abide by these standards in order to help fulfill the mission of Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University, which is to provide an educational setting where religious and human values are respected.  An important aspect of this process is academic honesty.  University faculty and students are expected to apply the principle of academic honesty by consistently displaying honesty and forthrightness in their academic endeavors.  Intellectual inquiry can possess value only if it is acquired and presented legitimately.

Honor Code:

We, the student body of Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University, embrace the idea that honor is an intangible quality, which, if it pervades all phases of campus life, tends to foster a spirit of dignity and personal integrity.  Upon enrolling at the University, we become part of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University Honor System.  We realize that honor must be cultivated, and that its success depends upon the combined and cooperative efforts of the University's administration, faculty, staff, and students. Inherent in the honor system is the premise that students will not perform or tolerate any violations of the 'Regulations Governing Student Behavior' published in the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University Student Handbook. As responsible members of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University community, each of us freely accepts and proudly endorses this, our code of honor.

Honor Statement:

I will not give or receive any unauthorized aid on any examination or paper.  In the event that I witness anyone else do so, I will report him or her immediately to the instructor and/or the appropriate Program Director or Dean.

Plagiarism Policy:

Plagiarism is submitting work that is not entirely your own for credit.  All course work (such as essays and reports) that students submit for credit must be entirely their own work.  Students must avoid plagiarism by fully and properly documenting any use of outside sources.

Some examples of plagiarism (not a comprehensive list):

  1. Purchasing, downloading, or otherwise acquiring a paper or other course work completed by another person.
  2. Allowing another person to contribute significantly to completing a graded assignment.  Examples of such contributions include (but are not limited to) having someone else write all of part of an assignment, having someone else conduct research for an assignment, and having someone else revise (make substantial changes to) an assignment.  For assignments in which spelling, grammatical correctness, and mechanical correctness are stipulated factors in the grade, having another person edit or correct the assignment is a form of academic dishonesty also covered by this policy.
  3. Using another writer's exact words without quotation marks and appropriate documentation.
  4. Paraphrasing another writer without proper acknowledgment and documentation.
  5. Summarizing another writer without proper acknowledgment and documentation.
