Great Books Seminar IV: Economics and Work

What does it mean to do a good job? What does it mean to be a good worker? What is considered work? How does the meaning of work differ across the country and globe? This course explores books about the meanings of work and how economic practices are, and should be, conducted both individually and socially. We will analyze the term “work” and trouble its classifications. Through the examination of narrative and theory, we will further our understanding of what it means to be a worker, and we will expand our categorization of what is deemed employment. This course includes a service-learning requirement.
