Registered Behavior Technicians (R) also known as, RBTs, work with individuals with disabilities. Being an RBT can be a very rewarding career. The FranU RBT training program includes the content outlined on the RBT Task List (2nd Ed.) and is designed to meet the 40-hour training requirement and initial competency assessment for RBT certification. The RBT training consists of an eight-week course in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and a skills assessment workshop that will be held in-person at the Emerge Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During the course students acquire knowledge of ABA concepts, principles, ethical practices, and more. During the skills workshop students will have the opportunity to learn to apply that knowledge in a clinical setting under the supervision of certified behavior analysts. Upon successful completion, individuals will be prepared to sit for the RBT national certification exam. The training program is offered independent of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BCAB).

FranU’s ABA program’s vision is to be a leader in training behavior analysts in the Gulf South region. To this end, we offer comprehensive training designed to meet RBT credentialing requirements. Our modules incorporated in the 8-week PSYC 1210 RBT Training course cover:

  • Module 1: Introduction to ABA and Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Module 2: Measurement and Data Collection
  • Module 3: Assessment
  • Module 4: Skill Acquisition
  • Module 5: Behavior Reduction
  • Module 6: Documentation and Professional Conduct
  • Module 7: Final Exam
  • Module 8: RBT Competency Assessment

All modules include:

  • Video demonstrations, practice activities, and group study sessions facilitated by a BCBA.
  • Study guides, fluency-building vocabulary flashcards, and quizzes to build a firm foundation in the language of ABA.
  • Competency quizzes included within each module to build your skills as you go
  • Specific focus on the role of the RBT and what you need to know to be successful in your role
  • Two practice tests to help you prepare for the RBT exam
  • RBT Initial Competency Assessment included. All skills outlined by the BACB are formally assessed so students are prepared to sit for the RBT exam upon course completion.

At the end, students must pass a comprehensive exam and the RBT competency assessment to complete the training.

The RBT training program is offered each semester in October, January, and May.

Admission requirements:

1. Completed Application and payment of application fee;

2. Graduation from high school with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or completion of the GED exam with a minimum score of 400. Note: If the student has attended College, a College transcript with a minimum 2.0 GPA may be substituted for the required high school transcript. (30 semester credit hour minimum)

**Students have 180 days from the date of registration to complete the course. Students may not complete the training in fewer than five days. These restrictions are set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board®.**

FAQ

Does the training program meet the training requirements of the national certification board?

Yes, the course includes the content from the RBT Task List 2nd Edition and more. The course also offers an in-person skills training/assessment following completion of the online modules.

What are the benefits of taking the RBT training program through FranU?

The training program is only 8 weeks and is flexible in that the instruction mainly occurs online, progression through the online modules is self-paced. The course instructors are doctoral-level behavior analysts. There is an in-person skills training/assessment following completion of the online modules. As a student, you have access to all the university’s student services and are granted college credit upon completion. Job placement services are also offered for those who complete the course.

Does completion of the training program allow me to practice as an RBT?

No, following completion of the training program you’ve met the requirements necessary to apply to take the national certification examination through the Behavior Analysis Certification Board® (BACB®). Other requirements may can be found in the RBT Handbook.

Where and when will the in-person skills assessment/training be held?

The Skills Workshop will be held at the Emerge Center in Baton Rouge during finals week.
